9th August 2009 Issue 56
From the President:
It is difficult for me (and I guess you also) to believe that it is almost a year since I took over the reins as Queensland Decoupage Guild President.
My first real introduction to the wonderful world of decoupage was our Exhibition in September 2008. This was a magnificent success from many points of view and credit must be given to all involved. The pieces were fantastic, as was the display of all items. Also a stand-out for me as a virtual novice, was the willingness of all members to be involved. From this expo we gained a few new members as our November meeting was a great follow-up to those wishing to find out more about the craft and our Guild.
The Crow's Nest week-end was another enjoyable week-end, I understand, for those who attended, and from that have come ideas to make this an even more interesting date and one to be marked on next year's calendar.
To those responsible for the ideas and running of the various workshops held throughout the year in conjunction with our meetings, thank you. Everybody has joined in and had a lot of fun.
At the time of writing this, those with entries in the RNA Exhibition will have presented their pieces for judgment.Good luck to all. Special thanks to Sally and Marilyn for organising the display of the exhibits and to Allan and Sue, the judges. I am looking forward to the August AGM and to hear the experiences and ideas of our Guest Speaker, Judith Madden. I am sure she will be made very welcome.
On a personal note, thank you to all those who have mentored me and eased me through this 12 months. I am deeply appreciative of the support and guidance given by one and all and I wish the Guild a trouble-free 12 months of prosperity.
Please remember we decided on a slightly earlier start for the AGM on Sunday 9th August. We will gather as soon after 9am as possible, enjoy a quick cuppa (bringing your own mug is helpful), and be ready to commence the meeting at 9.30am.
Don't forget to bring a piece of your decoupage to set up a display of "Queensland" work.
A light luncheon will be catered at a cost of $10 per person, so numbers are needed for ordering. Please RSVP to Barbara (3359 8937 or
email@example.com) no later than Monday 3rd August.
There will be the usual gold coin donation to cover the cost of fruit juice, tea, coffee etc.
Keep in mind that interested friends are welcome by arrangement - Guild policy is that visitors may attend 2 meetings before being required to join.
Judith Madden from Sydney will be talking to us about her work on this day. Judith does lovely work & will bring along some items for us to see.
It seems that it is Judith Madden's husband's birthday on the Saturday preceding the AGM, and the suggestion is that DGQ members (and partners)help him celebrate at dinner at the RSL on Saturday evening the 8th August.
If you would like to be part of this celebration, would you please RSVP to Carol (3353 2927 or
firstname.lastname@example.org) before the 31st July or to me (3359 8937 or
email@example.com) or directly to Allan (3359 6711 or
Will advise any extra relelvant details closer to the date.
